You are invited to a webinar at which Jacob Paulsen, former Science and Innovation Counsellor at the Swedish Embassy in Brazil, will present a new STINT Outlook report on Colombia’s research and innovation landscape.
The report provides a comprehensive overview of the current higher education and research situation in Colombia and highlights the significant changes the country has undergone in recent years. The report discusses the historical context, higher education policy development, the political landscape, and the strong research areas and infrastructures that have emerged in Colombia.
The report shows that Colombia has developed into one of the most interesting research nations in South America. As the world’s second-most biologically diverse country, Colombia has built research expertise in biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, and environmental science. The country’s higher education system is undergoing substantial transformation, with increased investment in free tuition and research funding. Colombia’s research institutes have an international impact and conduct research on climate, sustainability and biotechnology that is highly relevant to Swedish researchers. The 2024 partnership agreement between Sweden and Colombia opened new opportunities for Swedish–Colombian research partnerships in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable development, and biodiversity conservation.
The emphasis is on giving external observers and potential future partners basic insight into the Colombian system. Current national initiatives and the public sector’s focus on the country’s science and innovation systems are introduced, and the latest budget trends are presented.
The purpose of this report and webinar is to garner interest in and increase knowledge on international cooperation based on the strengths and challenges identified and addressed by Colombian research funders. We look forward to a lively discussion of the opportunities for collaboration with Colombia that may be identified in Sweden.
