Who are the current leaders of the science world, and how rapidly is the balance of power shifting?
The global research landscape has undergone dramatic changes during the last decade. The leading research universities are no longer concentrated to a few western countries, but new actors have emerged with remarkable speed and scope.
One country is more prominent than all the others: China is now home to some of the world’s most influential research universities and produces highly cited research across a broad spectrum of areas. This transformation has far-reaching consequences for international research collaborations and raises new questions for policymakers, funders, and universities around the world.
STINT Outlook #4 examines the world’s leading research universities from multiple perspectives, including the CWTS Leiden Ranking and Nature Index. The report shows how Chinese universities have joined and, in some areas, surpassed the long-dominant institutions of the USA and Europe.
Programme:
- Introduction, Dr Andreas Göthenberg, ED, STINT
- Presentation, Dr Erik Forsberg, STINT’s Representative in China and APAC
- Comments, Prof. Anders Hagfeldt, Vice-Chancellor, Uppsala University, and Prof. Anders Söderholm, President, KTH Royal Institute of Technology
- Questions and discussion
This webinar is aimed at researchers, research funders, and everyone with an interest in the global research landscape.
