The University of Gothenburg and four other higher education institutions have launched a project that will help new arrivals who commenced or completed their doctoral studies to continue their careers in Sweden. The project has been granted SEK 1 million as part of STINT\u2019s Grants for Integration and Internationalisation programme.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Grants for Integration and Internationalisation programme started as a pilot project during the spring semester of 2017 with the aim of helping to create opportunities to involve and integrate academics who recently arrived as refugees into the Swedish higher education sector. The programme therefore also aims to contribute to the strategic internationalisation of higher education institutions.<\/p>\n

The government has tasked Swedish higher education institutions with facilitating the employment of new arrivals through training. Thus far, professions such as university teachers or researchers had not been included in these projects. This project takes the form of a fast track for new arrivals who have commenced or completed their doctoral studies abroad. The participants must be living in Sweden and must have done so for no longer than five years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were really happy when we saw the call from STINT, because we wanted to invest in this target group. This is an opportunity for us to shorten their paths into Swedish universities, to keep their skills updated and to give them a way of retaining their identities as researchers, irrespective of whether they choose to stay in Sweden or return to their countries of origin,\u201d says Karolina Catoni, project coordinator at the University of Gothenburg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is also a valuable way for us and the other higher education institutions to broaden our skills and adapt to the demography, so that our organisations reflect the make-up\u00a0of society. It is also an opportunity to widen the scope of the\u00a0notion of internationalisation, so that it does not only\u00a0\u00a0 concern teacher and student mobility,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

The five higher education institutions will offer three types of activities as part of the project in the form of training, career coaching and academic mentorship. After completion of the programme, participants will have a clear sense of how they can continue their careers in or outside of Swedish academia. If the project succeeds, the aim is to include research on its results. Without STINT\u2019s Grants for Integration and Internationalisationprogramme, it would probably not have been possible to conduct a project on this scale, according to Karolina Catoni.<\/p>\n

The project title is Inclusive Internationalisation, Fast track for university teachers and researchers and the other four higher education institutions are Chalmers, Sk\u00f6vde University, the University of Bor\u00e5s and University College West. Associated partners include Region V\u00e4stra G\u00f6taland, V\u00e4stra G\u00f6taland County Council, Global Talent West Sweden, and the Support Group Network. The project continues until 2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

G\u00f6teborgs universitet har tillsammans med fyra meds\u00f6kande l\u00e4ros\u00e4ten initierat ett projekt som ska underl\u00e4tta f\u00f6r nyanl\u00e4nda med p\u00e5b\u00f6rjad eller avslutad forskarutbildning att ta sig vidare inom den svenska universitetsv\u00e4rlden. Projektet har tilldelats en miljon kronor inom STINTs satsning Grants for Integration and Internationalisation.<\/strong>

Programmet Grants for Integration and Internationalisation utlystes som en pilotsatsning under v\u00e5ren 2017 med syftet att bidra till att skapa f\u00f6ruts\u00e4ttningar f\u00f6r involvering och integration av nyanl\u00e4nda akademiker med flyktingbakgrund i den svenska universitets- och h\u00f6gskolesektorn. P\u00e5 s\u00e5 vis syftar satsningen ocks\u00e5 till att bidra till l\u00e4ros\u00e4tenas strategiska internationalisering<\/p>

Regeringen har gett de svenska l\u00e4ros\u00e4tena flera uppdrag f\u00f6r att underl\u00e4tta f\u00f6r nyanl\u00e4nda att komma i arbete, med hj\u00e4lp av utbildning. Yrken som universitetsl\u00e4rare och forskare har dock hittills inte ing\u00e5tt i dessa satsningar. Detta projekt \u00e4r utformat som ett snabbsp\u00e5r och riktar sig till nyanl\u00e4nda med en p\u00e5b\u00f6rjad eller avslutad utl\u00e4ndsk forskarutbildning. Personerna ska vara bosatta i Sverige och inte befunnit sig i landet l\u00e4ngre \u00e4n fem \u00e5r.

De fem l\u00e4ros\u00e4tena kommer att erbjuda tre typer av aktiviteter inom projektet i form av utbildning, karri\u00e4rcoachning och akademiskt mentorskap. Efter att ha genomg\u00e5tt programmet ska deltagarna ha f\u00e5tt en klar bild av hur de kan ta sig vidare i sina karri\u00e4rer inom eller utanf\u00f6r den svenska akademin. Om projektet faller v\u00e4l ut \u00e4r f\u00f6rhoppningen \u00e4r att det ska kopplas p\u00e5 f\u00f6ljdforskning p\u00e5 detta projekt. Utan STINTs satsning Grants for Integration and Internationalisation hade det sannolikt inte varit m\u00f6jligt att genomf\u00f6ra projektet i denna omfattning, menar Karolina Catoni.
