On Thursday 23 August, STINT hosted a breakfast seminar at which its experts on China presented STINT\u2019s initiative in the country and the support it can offer to Swedish higher education institutions regarding trend analysis in and strategic cooperation with China. As the importance of cooperation with China in higher education and research increases, STINT launched a new initiative focusing on presence and trend analysis in China in the spring. The aim of the initiative is to improve the strategies, activities and networks of Swedish higher education institutions in China. This is done through contributing knowledge and competence to the Swedish higher education institutions and research funders on China\u2019s development in the area of higher education and science.<\/p>\n
The seminar attracted around 60 participants from Swedish and foreign higher education institutions, public agencies active in the area of internationalisation, and the Government Offices.<\/p>\n
Andreas G\u00f6thenberg, Executive Director, presented STINT\u2019s aim of developing strategic collaborations by building long-term, strategic relations with higher education institutions, research funders, think tanks and public agencies in Sweden and in China. He also told the audience that STINT will be conducting trend analysis in the areas of research, higher education and innovation in China, as well as provide direct support to the senior leadership of Swedish higher education institutions.<\/p>\n
STINT\u2019s presence in China is the result of close cooperation with the Swedish consulate-general in Shanghai and the Embassy in Beijing, as well as Swedish higher education institutions and research funders.<\/p>\n
The new report Academic Collaboration Sweden-China<\/a> by Hans Pohl, Programme Director at STINT, was launched at the breakfast.<\/p>\n Erik Forsberg, STINT\u2019s representative in China, presented on STINT\u2019s trend analysis in the country and described the trajectory of Chinese research and higher education over the last 40 years. He also gave some examples of new initiatives in China.<\/p>\n Tommy Shih, China Policy Advisor and Programme Manager, presented on policy and trend analysis and emphasized the importance of working with long-term relations. STINT\u2019s initiative aims to accumulate knowledge, but also to contextualize information and thereby making it relevant to Swedish actors\u2019 strategic efforts in relation to China.<\/p>\n During the following year, STINT will organize a number of seminars and symposia with other Swedish, European and Chinese research funders, policy actors and universities.
