– The Role of Science Philanthropy in the USA and Canada <\/strong><\/p>\n
<\/strong>It is well established that collaborations, and particularly international ones, enhance the quality of research. Researcher mobility is crucial in establishing, facilitating, and maintaining such collaborations. Accordingly, it is important to study, understand and monitor researcher mobility over time. STINT has therefore published Research Mobility in Swedish Higher Education Institutions from 2016 to 2022<\/em>. This report follows up on a previous study of researcher mobility at Swedish higher education institutions from 1995 to 2016.<\/p>\n
<\/em><\/strong>Science philanthropy plays a crucial role in supporting scientific endeavours that may not receive sufficient funding from traditional sources like government grants or industry investments. It allows donors to directly support areas of scientific research and initiatives that align with their interests and priorities. By providing financial resources, science philanthropy aims to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery, foster innovation, and create positive societal impact. The Role of Science Philanthropy in the USA and Canada<\/em> draws on recent examples to highlight the importance of science philanthropy for basic research funding in North America. The report further shows how science philanthropy drives scientific progress and addresses pressing global challenges, such as climate change, healthcare, energy, and environmental sustainability. The seminar provides an opportunity to discuss what science philanthropy is and how it compares to government funding, recent trends observed in philanthropy, as well as what we can learn and possibly benefit from in a Swedish setting.<\/p>\n
