STINT invites you to the launch of the latest report in its Academic Internationalisation Outlook series. The webinar focuses on the Boston-Cambridge science and innovation cluster in the USA.
This STINT Outlook provides an overview of one of the world’s leading science and innovation clusters. Boston-Cambridge is internationally renowned for its combination of academic excellence, pioneering research, and a dynamic innovation ecosystem. According to WIPO’s Innovation Cluster Index, the region is ranked among the world’s most innovation intensive clusters, based on indicators such as patents, research publication, and venture capital activity.
With a hub formed by globally recognised institutions such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the cluster attracts top talent, considerable research funding, and corporate investment. Its universities, hospitals, and research centra are closely interwoven with industry, thereby creating favourable conditions for breakthroughs in areas such as biotechnology, life science, digital technology, and advanced manufacturing. This innovation capacity is further strengthened by the strong presence of venture capital and a lively start-up culture, which makes Boston-Cambridge an influential centre for entrepreneurship and the commercialisation of research results.
It is in Sweden’s strategic interest to understand and connect to this ecosystem, not least in view of the ongoing development of partnerships with universities, research institutes, and companies in the region.
Dr Niklas Kviselius, author of the report and STINT’s representative in North America, will present important insights on the cluster during the webinar. Dr Andreas Larsson, CEO, STUNS, will provide commentary from a Swedish perspective. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions.
This is the first report in a series on global science and innovation clusters. It will be followed by reports on other such clusters, including Tokyo-Yokohama and
Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao.
