Developing cooperation with Korea

During the autumn of 2005 the STINT Foundation explored the possibilities of a wider scientific exchange between Sweden and Korea. In December of 2005 STINT and Korea Science and Engineering Foundation, KOSEF, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to this effect.
The purpose of this agreement is to strengthen the cooperation between Sweden and Korea through visiting scientists, bilateral projects, seminars, workshops and conferences.
The first workshop was held in April of 2006 in Stockholm on the topic of “Intelligent Systems for Societal Challenges of the 21st Century”. There will be a follow-up in Korea in mid-November of 2006. In conjunction with the conference in April the STINT Foundation together with VINNOVA also arranged a seminar called “Future Focus: Korea”. This allowed for representatives of the business world as well as the universities to meet and discuss the possibilities of an increased collaboration.
The STINT Foundation is now proceeding to further strengthen Swedish-Korean exchange. During the autumn of 2006 STINT will offer a limited number of stipends for Swedish PhD-students to participate in Korean summer schools. The plan is to offer similar opportunities for Korean students in the future. In addition, the STINT Foundation will shortly invite a Korean university to nominate candidates to the STINT Scholarship for Academic Excellence programme, for studies at an international Master degree programme in Sweden.
