Strategic Grants for Internationalisation

Globalisation has brought huge changes to the world. Higher education and research are no exception and the area is now in a highly dynamic period. These changes mean new opportunities and challenges. This in turn raises the bar for clear goals and strategies for internationalisation at universities. With Strategic Grants for Internationalisation, STINT will contribute to the renewal and development of internationalisation strategies at university level. The programme is aimed at the university leadership and applications are to be submitted by the university president. Applications should incorporate strategically important internationalisation initiatives which also utilise the experience and dedication of individual leaders in their field at each university.

This initial call is being made as a pilot for future calls in the programme. The intention is annual calls.

Applications to the programme should be made by the university leadership. All information given on this page can be downloaded HERE.

Call dates

Applications should be submitted by the president of a Swedish university no later than 31st March 2012. Completed applications should be submitted to STINT on the following form: HERE. Applications should be written in English and will be assessed by an international expert panel.

Formal terms

  1. Applications should meet the following requirements in order to be considered:
  2. Applications to the programme should be submitted by the president of a Swedish university.
  3. Each university may apply for a maximum of two projects per call.
  4. The activities covered by the proposed project must be completed within two years of the appropriate call’s closing date.
  5.  Funds applied for in a project may not exceed SEK 1 million. The application should clearly state how the project will be co-funded by the university (and any other partners) in a sum at least as great as that being applied for.
  6. The renewal aspect of the project should be stated, including any new forms of collaboration.
  7. The impact on different groups at the University should be stated (such as researchers, lecturers, students and other departments or disciplines).
  8. If the project has a geographic focus, it should be outside the EU/EEA.

Assessment criteria

The following criteria will apply in the assessment:

A. The anticipated contribution of the university's activities to strategic internationalisation, i.e. in what ways the project will help in the short and long terms to strengthen the university’s international competitiveness in research and/or training and which groups at the university will be affected (various disciplines, researchers, lecturers and students).

B. The level of renewal in regard to internationalisation in the project and/or forms of international cooperation and potential of the project.

C. The university leadership’s commitment to and involvement in the implementation.

D.  The project proposal’s planning and approval, such as quality and level of clarification in the project plan, plus the anticipated benefit in relation to the size of the investment.

Project implementation and final report

Results will be notified no later than mid-June. Funds are normally paid out in the form of grants. A status/non-conformity report should be submitted to STINT one year after the grant (for two-year projects) and a final report should be submitted to STINT no later than three months after the end of the project.
