Questions about Institutional Grants

Who should be the responsible partner and apply?

A senior scientist, a Professor, an Associate Professor or lecturer at a Swedish host department should preferably apply and shall be the coordinator.

The main foreign partner, if there is more than one foreign partner, is the co-applicant. The main foreign partner shall share responsibility within the project, a potential second foreign partner may broaden the input to the project.

Can we work together with more than one research group and/or university?

Yes, it is possible to involve more than one institution (two or three) in one country, or even in two or three countries. The benefits of such cooperation, involving a number of partners, must be clearly explained.

May we exchange PhD-students for longer periods?

Yes, PhD-students may spend short-term visits or long-term visits up to one year with the foreign partner, the research group abroad.

May we exchange junior researchers, for short or longer postdoc periods?

Yes, young postdocs should preferably be involved, in both directions.

What does the grant cover?

The grant covers costs arising with exchange visits but may also cover costs of seminars and other activities in the cooperation. After consultation with STINT and with its permission, a small percentage of the grant may be used to cover some additional costs that are directly associated with the exchange (laboratory costs etc.).

The grants may not be used to pay salaries at the home department or for the purchase of scientific equipment, including computers.

From 2004 and onwards new grants will be stipulated in two-year contracts. The contract will be issued in the name of the main coordinator and shall be duly signed by the coordinator and the Swedish host institution concerned. Payments will be made twice a year during the two-year period.

The level of accepted administrative costs at the Swedish host institution for the project is stipulated in the contract with the Swedish host institution in line with the existing overall agreement between STINT and institutions of higher education in Sweden.

Prolonged disposal of the grant
STINT will consider a prolongation of the disposal up to one year, if the grant has not been fully used after the four-year period.
